Yesterday, March 22, 2011, the Association of Women Lawyers of Ecuador (SEWA) subsidiary Guayas, met in the Salon Simon Bolivar of the Interior in order to celebrate women's day .. . little late yes, but better late than never. This event brought together the members and supporters of the organization, most lawyers Guayaquil paying tribute to women who continually strive for gender equality, and who have excelled in this profession that I am honored to exercise, although it is discredited . It decorated the four members of the organization, and without detracting from the other two whose names I forget because I do not know, I applaud the decision of the board to recognize the trajectory of two women lawyers that I have been an example and inspiration to the professional level, in addition to being great human beings: Maria Leonor Espinoza Jiménez and Patricia Moran.

Maria Leonor, so often mentioned in this blog, is the President of the Provincial Court of Guayas. No need to detail your laurels or extensive experience (in any case a nice interview is posted here ). Grateful for this recognition, stepped to the podium to render a speech, which she says she was little, which now has been down for various reasons, some publicly, was not inspired to write anything. So he improvised a few words that I have reached my soul .... He began by saying that in this downturn that was started by writing "I am a bureaucrat, yes that I am," then said ... no, sounds very derogatory, and that I am, I am a servant of justice, and sounds better. This was to inspire a bit, recalling the struggle that she and her friends had to deal to get where she is now, and for the future generations to live in a country that we provide equal opportunities to men and women. So we called on the young and not so young, we failed to activate for the rights of women, who not only is there an impasse in this regard, but we have gone backwards ...

The truth is that, the National Council of Women (CONAMU) designed to ensure compliance with international treaties related to gender equality and protect women, was eliminated almost two years, has not yet replaced it, and nobody says anything. The Judicial Council has no single voice that is female, and is supposed to have a quota law.

Just the day of the woman, María Gabriela González Janon was murdered by her husband who also killed his daughter and wounded his son ... and apart from horrified by this news, women just came out as for example in Spain, with figures of women murdered by their partners, well below that can handle here, there is an activism that moves all the country. The figure of femicide that is in legislation and in that of Costa Rica, here or heard, considering that the murders of women by their partners is very high here, and not be said of child abuse and domestic violence in general.

Maria Leonor has shaken us, and has planted in many women the impetus to join together to continue his legacy and that of many others that have seen the hard and ripe for us to enjoy the rights we achieved. As soon as I signed up for SEWA, women's first union to which I a:).
