Today we stopped at another monument of the world, well known, of course





The famous Golden Gate Bridge is located in California, United States, which connects San Francisco peninsula to the north with southern Marin. "Golden Gate" is also the name of the strait in which the bridge is built, and named after the strait in Constantinople, also called the Golden Gate, and that connected Europe with Asia.

The Golden Gate is the most famous bridge in San Francisco though not the largest in this city, as the Bay Bridge is the main road.

In decade after the First World War, the traffic in the region of the San Francisco Bay seven times, so that the ferry system was unable to absorb that growth. Listed as a suspension bridge, built between 1933 and 1937, with an approximate length of 1,280 meters, is suspended from two towers of 227 m in height. It has a six-lane road (three in each direction) and has protected lanes for pedestrians and bicycles available. The bridge also carries a canal and down the large amount of energy required for the development of the area where power lines and fuel lines. Under the structure, leaving 67 m of height for the passage of ships across the bay. The Golden Gate was the largest engineering project of its time. bridge construction began on January 5, 1933 under the Program Works Projects Administration (WPA), a public works program initiated by the government of Franklin D. Roosevelt to create jobs with federal funds and reduce the effects of the Great Depression. The project was chief engineer Joseph Strauss. The bridge was completed in April 1937 and was opened to pedestrian traffic on May 27 at 6:00 am, to be inaugurated at the opening, traffic filmed the day after May 28, 1937. The initial work cost $ 35 million at the time.
